Belagavi: The forest police squad of Belagavi has arrested a duo which engaged in smuggling of the elephant ivories and has seized seven elephant ivories from them.
The arrested smugglers are identified as Lagamanna Yallappa Naik(26), resident of Gataguddi village of Hukkeri taluk and Mallappa Balappa Dulappagol (38) resident of Markandey Nagar, Belagavi. On tip off that elephant ivories being smuggled at Hosa Vantamuri village in Belagavi taluk by violating wildlife protection act, the forest police squad headed by PSI Rohini Patil plotted a plan and raided along with staff on Saturday late night. They succeeded in arresting the accused and handed over them in judicial custody for further investigation.
A total of seven elephant ivories, each one of 3.5 inch to 4 inches in length and weighing 290 to 410 gram have been seized. Later, they were handed over to the Belagavi forest office. RJ Yarnal, SR Aribenchi, KD Hiremath and BB Ingalagi were the part of the investigation.
