Belagavi: The BJP high command which was in Belagavi for two days last week has shocked on seeing a big line of aspirants who wanted to contest the bye-elections from Belagavi Parliamentary constituency. From top leaders to bottom party workers, many have shown interest and have started lobbying for the ticket as they have realised that the victory is easy in this election.
The party informers say that number of aspirants is almost near to a century. So, this has ultimately created a big mess for the party high command to choose the right candidate and how to cool down the other candidates. There are influencing BJP leaders in the every assembly constituency in the BJP in the district who are eyeing the BJP ticket to contest the election.
In a thought that the party high command will give chance to new face this time, not just the party members, the persons who never identified in the party have also started lobbying to get the ticket. This has widened the list of aspirants for the bye-elections. However, the party in charge, a president who was in Belagavi for the executive meet have instructed the district in charge of the party to prepare a shortlist of the five to ten candidates to the state committee. Following the instructions, the 12 members core committee of Belagavi district will be conducting a meeting to finalise the shortlist.
Some of the leaders who already enjoying the different positions in the government from Belagavi district are eyeing the BJP ticket. Government’s special Delhi representative Shankargouda Patil, BDCC Bank Chairman Ramesh Katti and many are kin to contest the elections while former chief minister Jagadish Shettar is lobbying to get the ticket to the family member of late MP Suresh Angadi.
