Belagavi: The KSRTC employees strike has witnessed violence in Belagavi as some employees have pelted stone on a bus plying between Belagavi-Sankeshwar on Friday. The agitating KSRTC employees stopped the bus near Gandhi Nagar and damaged the mirrors of the bus. They took the driver and conductor of the bus to task for plying the bus.
The employees of Karnataka state road transport corporation(KSRTC) from Belagavi went on strike from Friday early morning all sudden without early intimation. They extended their support to the KSRTC employees strike in Bengaluru demanding to consider them as government employees.
Hundreds of the employees had come to bus depots to attend the duty in the morning. But all the employees stopped their buses in the central bus stand and staged for the strike. They shouted slogans against the government and demanded to consider them as government servants and urged them to fulfil their various demands.
But hundreds of travellers including college students gathered at the bus stand faced great inconvenience due to the sudden stoppage of the buses. Speaking on this occasion, an agitating KSRTC employee said ‘Government should consider our service as government service. Pay to justify an equal salary to our work. We are doing heavy work but the salary paid is very less. Our basic salary is less than what the municipal worker is paid’ said the employee.
The Auto drivers encashed the sudden stoppage of the buses on Friday. They made booming money by charging double fare from the travellers. Some verbal clashes were also taking place between drivers and travellers over the hiked fares in the city.
