Belagavi: Another feather added in the head of Belagavi as the one among the six flight training organisations(FTO) planned to set up by the central government will come at the Sambra Airport in Belagavi. Besides, Belagavi, Kalaburgi is the second airport which has been chosen to set up The FTO.
According to the sources from the airport, the tender bidding process to set up the training organisation at the airport has been started. The Belagavi airport will be giving its land on lease basis to the agencies which will be finalised in the bidding process. The government has taken the initiative to set up six FTO’s across the country to meet the future requirement of pilots in India. According to the government, 9,400 pilots would be required in the next five years for the country. But presently due to the absence of training centres in India, the aspirants visit abroad to get flight training spending a huge amount.
Once the bidding process completed if December, the selected agency will commence the work to set up the infrastructure for the training school. It would be taking at least two years to complete the work and then only the training will be started.
There are no flying training school in North Karnataka. Belagavi, known as education hub will become a leading city to provide technical education to the aspirants. The training school will be using the runway of the airport to teach the candidates. Presently, there are six engineering colleges in Belagavi city alone. This school will create a big platform for engineering students to create a bright future.
