Belagavi: Noted Businessmen, educationist RN Shetty who not just earned name and fame in India but also in abroad breathed last at the age of 92 on Thursday. He died by a cardiac attack on Thursday early morning at 3.30 am. He was survived by a wife and three sons and grandchildren. RN Shetty became a common name among the people of Belagavi as A Diploma college is being run on his name in the city.

Rama Nagappa Shetty born in Murudeshwar of coastal district Karwar in the year 1928 had founded RN Shetty and company in the ’60s and become popular for venturing in the construction industry and infrastructure development. He built tunnels for the railways, dams, canals, bridges and buildings in various parts of Karnataka and especially he played a key role in building National highway-4, bridges and canals in Belagavi.

Besides earning a name as a businessman, he also earned fame for making Murudeshwar a religious place into a popular tourist destination as administrator. He had developed a 123 feet tall idol of Lord Shiva at the beach in Murudeshwar.

This eminent businessman had good relations with the border district. He was a great educationist and had donated open-heartedly to the Sri Siddarameshwar education society of Belagavi. Thus, the seer of Nagnuru Rudraximath had given a name of RN Shetty to the Diploma college of the education society in Belagavi. Today, hundreds of talented students are taking education in this college situated at KPTCL road in Belagavi.
