Belagavi: A Belagavi based youth gone missing at Kitwad falls that situated in the Kitwad village of Chandgad taluk at Karnataka-Maharashtra boundary.
Abhishek Sajjan(24), resident of Malmaruti extension in Belagavi is the youth who went missing at the falls. The police team from Chandgad police station. Abhishek Sajjan had gone to falls along with the family members to enjoy the weekends. But, when playing in the water near falls, he went missing. It is speculated that Sajjan might have drowned in the water. Police have continued the search operation.
Tourists are seen flocking to this waterfall as the overflowing water from the dam in the lush green area has created a serene view this monsoon. As schools and colleges are currently on holiday following the COVID19 pandemic, tourists especially youths are discovering new places for hangouts.
Kitwad is a village in the Maharashtra border at a distance of 4 km from Handiganur village in the northern part of Belagavi taluka. This village is situated at a distance of 22 km from Belagavi. There are two dams to the east and two to the west of the village. The falling water has become a tourist attraction. The water further flows into a deep ravine, creating a waterfall. A structure has been constructed at the corner of the dam to release excess water. This structure looks like the English alphabet ‘W’. Youths enjoy walking over this structure as water flows from its surface. An iron bridge has been built at the site of the waterfall to allow farmers to commute from one side to another. All these make Kitwad a beautiful picnic destination during rain season.
