DCM, higher education minister Dr Ashwath Narayan gave surprise visit to colleges in Belagavi

Belagavi: Higher education minister, Deputy chief minsiter Ashwath Narayan, who toured the district on Tuesday for the inauguration of GTTC at Arabhavi, inspected three colleges in the Belagavi city.
He gave surprise visit to the Government Polytechnic, Sardar’s College and Sangolli Rayanna colleges near Rani Channamma circle. He discussed with students and sought feedback of online and offline classes. He also visited every class room at government polytechnic ans asked students that ‘Is there anything wrong with starting college? Is the Covid test being done for free for them? The minister inquired from the students whether all kinds of precautions had been taken by the officials or not. The minister also received information about the difficulties to conduct lectures from lecturers. Belagavi North MLA Anil Benake requested the minister to allot more land for the the Government Sangolli Rayanna College which is being constructed and has very less space of land. Minister assured to look into the matter.

A boy said to be child labour died after compound wall collapsed in Belagavi

Belagavi: A boy said to be child labour working at the construction site at Nehru Nagar in Belagavi died after the compound wall collapsed on him.
He is identified as Basavaraj Ramappa Sutagatti(17), resident of Sonatti village of Belagavi taluk. The illegal work and the negligence of the owner is said to be the reason for the death of the boy. As per City corporation’s town planning guidelines, a three feet space has to be kept open between two structures. But the owner was constructing his building by very close to the neighbouring building wall without maintaining safe open space. When the work was in progress, the compound wall collapsed in which the boy working at the site sustained severe injuries and died before he was transported to the hospital. After the incident, CPI Javed Mushapure from APMC police station visited the spot along with his team and have started investigation after registering the case.
