Belagavi: Belagavi city will be shortly getting a new national-level indoor stadium. Belagavi North MLA Abhay Patil envisaged a plan to set up a national-level indoor stadium at Yellur village in Belagavi taluk.
The new indoor stadium to be developed in the 40-acre land similar to the International standard stadium of Balewadi, Pune. It will have the facility to train and play sports like Volleyball, Basketball, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, table tennis and athletics and many more sports.
On Monday, Belagavi south MLA Abhay Patil along with Commissioner of sports department Srinivas visited the location of stadium in Yellur and observed the land. MLA Abhay Patil said on this occasion that, Belagavi has left its footprints in the world map for foundry industry, education sector and now, I have decided to shine the name of Belagavi in the sports by creating the necessary infrastructure. The new stadium will be developed by seeking funds from both state and central government. This proposal has been submitted many times before the government and grabbed the attention of the government in assembly.
There are many sports talents in Belagavi city and rural area. They will get huge scope if we create the required platform for them. This stadium will create many international players and will represent India in the Olympics he said.
With this, Belagavi city which already has KSCA cricket stadium, Hockey ground will have a national standard indoor system.
